This placement would suit... people interested in outdoor education and who want to be fully immersed in an exciting international culture.
 You will be working with the Head of Education Projects, This will involve visiting International Schools and designing and implementing Outdoor Adventure packages/expeditions for the students. You will then assist with taking school groups out into the 'field' (mountains, deserts, wadis) and helping with adventure activities such as rock climbing, camping, snorkelling and canoeing. You will normally work a 5 day week but sometimes you will work weekends or evenings then you will be given days off in lieu. In the evenings you will be involved in helping at torch lit dinners in the camps in the desert and you will be able to watch the belly-dancing and entertainments. While we are looking for male and female gap students you will be working with schools of different cultures and some of the girls from the schools you help will not be able to do these kind of activities without female volunteers.
Accommodation:You will have a room in a furnished apartment in the city. It is basic but it is comfortable and will meet all your needs. You will have toilet and shower facilities. Electricity and water are generally reliable in this City. You can expect to share with another Changing Worlds volunteer. Support:On arrival, you will be met by our representative, Graham Malkin. He will introduce you to Dubai, and show you around the city and local region. Graham will provide on-going support throughout your stay. He is English and he understands the challenges of living and working overseas as he himself was a volunteer some years ago. Graham will also guide you through your work. What do I need?:You will need to purchase food for yourself. You will be given an allowance of about 2000 Dirhams a month (around £140) and there will be a small kitchen should you wish to cook. - A full UK passport valid for 6 months after your planned return
- Insurance covering the duration of your work placement and any planned independent travel (we can recommend a specific policy)
- Independent travel costs and cost of journey to Dubai airport at end of your placement.
- Leisure time costs (about £25 per week)
- All UK travel costs (to the interview day, placement briefing day and airport)
Eligibility:You will need to have a strong interest in and enthusiasm for outdoor education. You will need to have gained at least the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award. You will need to be trustworthy, reliable, and a good team worker, and to be able to listen to and take instructions carefully.
