This placement would suit... anyone and everyone with a passion for sports. Do a bit of academic teaching in the mornings and coach the kids of Cape Town in your favourite team games. Cape Town is an amazing city with vibrant nightlife and idyllic beaches, making it the perfect place to visit during a gap year or career break. However, outside the city there are many townships in desperate need of volunteer assistance. Children lack access to necessary education and many have no structured environments to spend their days. You can help rectify this by providing much needed teaching and sports coaching assistance, with opportunities to spend your free time surfing, at the beach and doing any of the great activites here. Volunteer RoleThe aim of the project is to help alleviate the strain on the limited resources of the Hout Bay township school. Through your volunteer assistance, the children will benefit from your academic lessons (such as basic maths, English and IT) in the mornings and they will also have a structured place to play and learn in the afternoons with your sports coaching sessions. The main sport played is football, however, you can coach a wider range of sports. Project LocationCape Town, South Africa Project Age LimitMinimum age is 17 years, the maximum age is decided on potential participants health. Accommodation and MealsAll accommodation is included during your programme. You will spend your first 2 days and last 2 days staying in a comfortable hostel in the city centre. After this you will be transferred to the project accommodation. This is a basic, yet comfortable building located inside the Table Mountain national park. The house cook will provide all meals at your accommodation. Meals will be made from local produce, which typically consists of rice, vegetables, chicken and fish.
